WOMEN’S LIBERATION INDIA

About WLI

An India-based women’s rights campaign group. We produce research and writing on violence against women and girls, and strive to increase awareness of issues affecting women, particularly ones that are going unnoticed by the mainstream. We have a particular
focus on sexual violence affecting women and girls, and highlight laudable but unknown initiatives trying to combat violence. As new and unforeseen threats to women’s rights and their personhood arise, we aim to have reasoned, rights-based discourse surrounding
emerging topics that affect women in the country.

Our mission

  • To spotlight sexual violence affecting women and girls, and produce evidence-based research and recommendations on resolving the epidemic of violence.
  • To apply reasonable scrutiny to available research and ensure that research being used in the Indian context is in fact, topical and relevant to the plight of Indian women and girls, and is not supplanted from other countries / political and historical environments with little relevance.
  • To strengthen awareness of the importance of women’s rights, and their particularity, to ensure continuity in knowledge of women’s issues.
  • To build cooperation among women’s rights initiatives in the country to avoid duplication of work and draw from the wealth of knowledge already created.

OUR VALUES

We believe that women, as a distinct sex class, face unique challenges, which require a distinctive approach informed by history and by global trends.

We advocate for women’s interests and right to be recognized with acknowledgment of their
historical oppression as recognized by the Constitution of India

We call for greater visibility and legal remedies for the difficulties faced by women, simply by being women, in furtherance of their human rights.
